Named after the colorful robes of Imperial Chinese officers (mandarins), these fish are surprisingly shy considering their appearance. But in nature colorful rarely means life-of-the-party and these fish use their kaleidoscopic brilliance to alert others to their less than appetizing taste (they are covered in a smelly mucus that protects them from disease but also makes them taste bad). A fish seemingly designed for the painter's brush, the artists at Herend have used multiple techniques to beautifully immortalize this exotic reef-dweller.

Herend Seahorse Shell Compote
Limited Edition Size = 150
With echoes of caryatids, the draped female figures used as columns in ancient Greek architecture, Herend's sculptor has created a compote supported by three elegant seahorses with draping as well - albeit with a pattern alluding to the intricate armored plates that cover their bodies. Once this piece was given to the painting studio, the artists added to the story by decorating each seahorse in a slightly different fishnet color palette reflecting their maritime home. To complete the beautiful scene, the clam shell's core is painted in shimmering pearlized paint with the outer shell in a blue that pulls the whole exquisite composition together.

About
A surrealistic “talisman” of good luck and a traditional symbol of protection, the eye serves as a constant reminder to be aware, to dispel negative energy, and to seek beauty in the everyday. The eye is also a point of connection between two souls. L’Objet + Lito is a celebration of that connection, between two creators, inviting you to see design in a whole new light. Whimsical and surreal decorative objects are handcrafted in porcelain with 24-karat gold plating and inlaid with resin details.
