Many connoisseurs consider this pattern, first created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe, to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain. Twelve different motifs portray a 19th-century tale about Baroness Rothschild, who lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later it was found by her gardener, who saw birds playing with it in a tree.

Limited Edition Size = 35

SIZE: 12.75in L X 12.75in W Multicolor

The Rothschild birds may be the most famous Herend birds but there are many other avian beauties in the catalog that deserve their time in the spotlight. With the Birds of Herend tray, rarely seen bird motifs have flown their coop in the Herend archives and are presented in stunning detail nestled among vivid scenes of flowers and foliage. Adding to the rich presentation are gold fishscale details and faux-bois handles that mimic the birds natural home.

Herend Chinese Bouquet originally created in 1930 in raspberry coloration for Count Albert Apponyi, the pattern features a center motif of a stylized peony surrounded by a garland of leaves with 24K gold rosettes.

With this achingly elegant swan, they have employed a striking, new painting technique to capture the airy, delicate composition of a bird’s feather. To heighten the swan’s allure further, the face has been painted in a natural coloration which gives full expression to the haunting beauty of this figurine.

When two famous patterns meet, magic happens! On the one hand, you have Mother Nature taking her paintbrush to create an intricate composition uniquely tailored to the animal in question. On the other hand, you have an artist at Herend who in 1874 picked up his tools to try to mimic a Chinese plate's fish scale design and the illustrious fishnet pattern was born. When painted on the same animal, a creative union of nature and fantasy give rise to a fascinating figurine.

Named after the colorful robes of Imperial Chinese officers (mandarins), these fish are surprisingly shy considering their appearance. But in nature colorful rarely means life-of-the-party and these fish use their kaleidoscopic brilliance to alert others to their less than appetizing taste (they are covered in a smelly mucus that protects them from disease but also makes them taste bad). A fish seemingly designed for the painter's brush, the artists at Herend have used multiple techniques to beautifully immortalize this exotic reef-dweller.

A magnificent new fishnet design premiers on Herend’s classic rooster, a commanding figure designed by Sandor Keleti in 1924.   For the first time in Herend’s 182-year history, a harmonious medley of fishnet colors is composed in concert to create a synchronized fishnet symphony.   The product of 17 craftspeople, each rooster requires 19 hours to paint.   Herend’s traditional single-colorway fishnet design first took shape in 1874, when an artist was inspired by a Chinese plate’s fish scale design and replicated it onto a rooster figurine’s breast to imitate feathers.  In keeping with tradition, Herend again chose a rooster to model the unprecedented symphonic fishnet design.

Herend China Rothschild Bird Green Border Triangle Dish 9.5"L
Trimmed in 24k gold
9 1/2 inches long

Herend is a sound investment in hand painted art, but not the sort to admire from afar. Its durable hard paste porcelain body and dishwasher-safe attribute make it a breeze to enjoy. Each piece is unique and motifs vary. Rothschild Bird Green Border is a lush design featuring the highly recognizable bird motif framed by tiny individually hand painted rich green fish scales outlined in 24-karat gold.

Many connoisseurs consider this pattern, first created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe, to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain. Twelve different motifs portray a 19th century tale about Baroness Rothschild, who lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later it was found by her gardener, who saw birds playing with it in a tree.

Herend Royal Garden Pin Dish.

On the eve of Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding, Hungary formally presented Royal Garden dinnerware as the country's official gift to the royal couple. Created by Herend specifically for William and Kate, the design is a modern interpretation of Herend's classic Queen Victoria pattern, which celebrates its 160th anniversary in 2011. Queen Victoria was first purchased in 1851 by its namesake upon her seeing it in London at the first World's Fair.
