He may be native to North America but in this case his flair is all Hungarian. A noisy songbird, the blue jay is not afraid to make his presence known with calls that carry for long distances; however, this time, his beautiful, painted feathers herald his arrival instead. The artists at Herend have embellished him with vibrant shades of blue with 24K gold highlights which are sure to put the other birds on notice.

Herend holds a rich history spanning many years, crossing many oceans and charming generation after generation to enjoy worldwide acclaim as the pinnacle in supreme porcelain, also known as “white gold.” Now the biggest porcelain manufactory in Europe, Herend was founded in 1826 to produce pottery, but in 1839 a major turning point occurred when Mor Fischer became the manufacturer’s new owner. A magnificent new fishnet design premiers on Herend’s classic rooster, a commanding figure designed by Sandor Keleti in 1924.   For the first time in Herend’s 182-year history, a harmonious medley of fishnet colors is composed in concert to create a synchronized fishnet symphony.   The product of 17 craftspeople, each rooster requires 19 hours to paint.   Herend’s traditional single-colorway fishnet design first took shape in 1874, when an artist was inspired by a Chinese plate’s fish scale design and replicated it onto a rooster figurine’s breast to imitate feathers.  In keeping with tradition, Herend again chose a rooster to model the unprecedented symphonic fishnet design.

Herend Seated Dog-Zodiac Collection-Cold Nose, Warm Heart. Endearing animals meek and bold, large and small, demure and majestic eagerly await the chance to melt your heart and warm your home. Each is brought to life by the skilled hands of artisans crafting and painting these charming porcelain creatures. The famous fishnet décor adorning many of the animals took form in 1858 when a Herend painter became inspired by a fishscale design he saw on a Chinese porcelain plate and painted a similar pattern onto a rooster figurine to imitate feathers. The rest is history, with the fishnet design now a Herend signature prized worldwide.

This striking elephant is a replica of an antique figurine depicting an elephant carrying goods along the silk road. The silk road was an interconnected series of ancient trading routes stretching from China to the Mediterranean Sea. The silk road not only served as a means of moving precious commodities back and forth but was also significant for bringing new cultural influences. This Pink Elephant figurine certainly demonstrates this Eastern influence through its highly ornate decorative style including the dramatic rug on its back. The figurine was reissued from the Herend archives to commemorate the Manufactory’s 180th anniversary.
